On Saturday, 22 July, in the ambitious race “Aurum 1006 km” held in Palanga, Lithuania, the second place was won by Valters Zviedris, the leading highway pilot of Latvia, as part of the “TDS group – TOKS Racing Team” team, conceding only to the team in which the former F1 pilot Jan Magnussen competed.
The young athlete does not have too much time to be happy about this great achievement, because already this week on 28-29 July, the Latvian pilot has the next competition behind the wheel of the “Porsche 911 GT3 CUP”. Thanks to the support of “Porsche Latvija”, Valters will go to Finland to compete in the 4th stage of the “Porsche Sprint Challenge NEZ”.
“I am very happy for the support of “Porsche Latvija”, which will allow me to continue the fight for the title of Northern European “Porsche” champion,” the Latvian pilot Valters Zviedris is motivated before the upcoming competition. After the first three stages, he is in second place with 106 points, just seven points behind the leader. After a successful start of the season in the “Porsche Sprint Challenge NEZ” championship, in which Valters Zviedris ranks second overall after the first three stages, he went to the Lithuanian resort town of Palanga last weekend to fight with the same new generation “Porsche 911 GT3 CUP” for the highest positions in the prestigious endurance competitions. Valters was a part of the “TDS group – TOKS Racing Team”, together with the team owner Ramūnas Čapkauskas and the experienced driver Nemunas Dagilis.
“On Wednesday, 19 July, we arrived in Palanga, passed all the tests, and met with the team – its managers, drivers and engineers. The team had a very positive atmosphere from the very first day, which improved even more when Ramūnas won second place in the “Super Sprint” show competition. Training started on the evening of Thursday, 20 July, when I did two sessions. It was followed by another session on Friday. Next, we went to the qualification, where we had a good first lap and overall we were fourth. In the second qualification, we showed a similar lap time, however, our competitors managed to improve their times, so we got the seventh place in the qualification,” says Valters Zviedris about the first days of the competition.

On Saturday, 22 July, at 12:00, the start of the “Aurum 1006 km” race was given to 23 teams, which promised to be exciting and full of events, as ten teams were striving for the podium. “After one of our competitors received a penalty, we started from sixth place. The beginning of the race was quite difficult. We drove with dry weather slick tires on a wet track, which required a lot of concentration. I’m glad that all three of us drivers showed good speed and managed to gain a lot of time in the wet, slippery conditions, get close to the leaders and break away from the other teams,” comments Valters at the start of the race.
Valters Zviedris also explained that due to various incidents, there were many yellow flags and “Code 60” zones where the speed cannot exceed 60 km/h, and strategic decisions were important at these moments. “We knew that in order to finish at the top positions, we had to have an excellent strategy and its execution. It worked out, as we didn’t have any big mistakes in the race, and as drivers, we made the right decisions in difficult situations. The battles were interesting, many overtakes and in the end an excellent result! We finished ahead of much faster GT3 class cars, which is something miraculous and reflected great teamwork. A fantastic weekend – winning second place absolutely and first place in the GTO class in Palanga is definitely one of my biggest achievements in my career so far,” emphasized Valters Zviedris.
In conclusion, Valters would like to say a big thanks to all the supporters: “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, Jūrmala, “Visit Jūrmala”, “Blue Shock Race”, “NPK Expert”, “Joker club”, “Energoluks” ”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”.
