Debut and podium finish in Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux

Valters will compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux

4 April 2024

After winning the “Porsche Sprint Challenge NEZ” title last year, Valters Zviedris will take a big step forward this year and compete in the competitive “Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux” championship. Among the competitors this year, there will be not only young talents from eight European countries, but also the two-time world rally champion Kalle Rovanpera.

The Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux, based in Belgium and the Netherlands, has been a great platform for young drivers from all over Europe in recent years. The international status of the series is confirmed by the fact that, since 2018, pilots from four different countries have won the championship title and that most of them continued their careers in the world’s strongest Porsche championship – Porsche Supercup – and in the prestigious GT3 class series.

Apart from the strong and international competition, the Porsche Benelux series is also distinguished by the tracks where the races are held. Four of the six stages take place on legendary F1 tracks (Spa-Francorchamps, Imola, Zandvoort, and Red Bull Ring), the remaining two stages take place in equally exciting locations – the former F1 track in Zolder and the motorway speed cathedral in Assen. Another added value of the “Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux” is that the competition stages take place together with world and European championships. For example, the season opener in Spa-Francorchamps will be held as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) round, and the second round in Zandvoort will be held together with the legendary “DTM” series.

“I will be joining the “Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux” championship this year with great pleasure. After winning the Porsche Sprint Challenge NEZ Northern European title, this will be a great next step in my career, as I will be able to compete with young, fast, and good drivers in the well-known Porsche 911 GT3 CUP car. This is a very good championship to show yourself on the European stage and also to gain a lot of new things. I am happy to do it together with the “Q1-Trackracing” team, which has a lot of good experience in this championship. I can’t wait to start at such legendary tracks as Spa and Imola”, Valters Zviedris does not hide his excitement about joining the strong championship.

Of course, participation in competitions of this level would not be possible without the supporters, to whom Valters would like to say a special thank you: “I am very happy that “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta” continue to support me. As well as many thanks to “Industry Service Partner” who joined us this year!” The Latvian racing driver emphasizes that “we are going on a big adventure this year as well, because we don’t have the budget for the whole season yet. It’s true that last year too, initially the plan was to ride only half the season, but in the end, we managed to finish the whole season and win the title! We believe that this year too we will manage to find the means to drive the whole season and fight for the highest places”.

Valters took part in the official ‘Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux’ test and media day at Zandvoort on 3 April 2024, completing the first laps behind the wheel of this season’s Porsche 911 GT3 CUP. “The track was very special and difficult, and the weather conditions were changing throughout the day, so I didn’t get to know Zandvoort until the end. During the tests, I also got to know the fast and experienced teammates Dirk and Niels, who are happy that we will be able to compare data with each other this year and improve our performance together. Until the beginning of the season, I will definitely do more tests with the team, as well as prepare for the Spa track in the simulator, so that I can show a good performance in the first stage,” said the Latvian pilot about the test day and preparation for the first stage.
