This weekend, after a long break, Valters Zviedris will sit behind the wheel of a racing car again. One of the most titled Latvian motor racing drivers has traveled to Sweden to compete in the Swedish “Legends Cup” competition against more than 60 drivers. The Latvian driver will pilot the exciting “Legend Cars” vehicle as part of the prestigious Swedish “Nyman Racing” team.

The “Gelleråsloppet” competition taking place at the “Gelleråsen Arena” track is like an impressive motor racing festival, as eight different classes will take to the start line, including such respectable competition series as “Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia” and “Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia”. It should be noted that Valters has come to this event not only as a “Legend Cars” pilot, but also as the team leader of the “Porsche Latvia Racing Team”, as Estonian Romets Reisins will be at the start with the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport.
“It’s cool that I’ve been to this track about 5-6 years ago, when I first tried driving a “V8 Thunder Car”. The track is quite interesting, technical, very suitable for “Legend Cars” vehicles. There are changes in terrain, there are sharper corners, there will be something to work on. Many corners also mean a lot of overtaking opportunities, so it promises to be a very interesting race. I’ve driven with Nyman, his team is always on the same level, which is why we chose to rent a car from Nyman Racing this time. This will be my first experience with the new water-cooled engine, so the balance in the car, acceleration and driving style may be slightly different, but I plan to get used to it quite quickly,” says Valters Zviedris about the track and the upcoming weekend.

“The main task is to go and fight, get positive emotions and hopefully bring home a trophy from the competition. Judging by the entries, there are also quite a few experienced drivers, the competition will be great, as there will be a lot to work on and sweat about. Of course, the Swedes know the track much better than I do, because it is their home track, but since this year the competition itself is less frequent than in previous years, I want to use every opportunity given to me even more,” the Latvian athlete is full of determination.
Since Valters competed in endurance competitions last season, this time he will have to return to the specifics of sprint competitions. “Unlike the Finnish and Baltic series, the start here will be on the move. I know this well from my karting days, so there shouldn’t be any big problems there. After last year’s endurance race, this year I have to switch back to a more aggressive sprint driving style. Previously, I was thinking more about saving tyres, driving more strategically, but here again, in a 14-minute race, I will have to squeeze everything out of myself and the car,” explains the talented pilot.

Zviedris mentions that “it is also a pleasure that the “Porsche Latvia Racing Team” with Estonian Romet Reisin at the wheel is racing in the “Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia” series. There will also be more than 10 cars on the start line, which means good competition. It is cool that, as a team, we are also competing at a more international level outside the Baltics. Therefore, this weekend we will have to both work hard and enjoy the joys of driving.”
The Latvian driver also wants to thank all the partners who support his motorsport journey: “Thank you to everyone who helps us bring the name of Latvia to the world – “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, “iPS Media”, “Industry Service Partner”, the city of Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”. Without them, it would not have been possible to achieve such great success in recent years.”
The race weekend started on Friday with practice runs, followed by qualifying in the evening. On Saturday, the participants of the Swedish “Legends Cup” series will hold the first two races, followed by the third on Sunday. The race will also be available to watch live on “Youtube” – https://www.youtube.com/@gellerasenarena2019/streams.
