Last weekend, Valters Zviedris participated in the strong round of the Swedish “Legends Cup” series. At the “Gelleråsen Arena” track, the Latvian racing driver showed increasingly better speed with each race, which resulted in 4th place in the second race. Although an accident occurred in the 3rd race due to the fault of the competitors, it could not spoil the joy of the battles and emotions experienced during the weekend. It should be noted that a total of 60 “Legend Cars” drivers took to the start.

The “Gelleråsloppet” competition held in Karlskrona, Sweden, gathered a large number of participants and many competition series, among which were also the prestigious “Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia” and “Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia” championships. Estonian Romet Reisin also took to the start line at the Porsche Sprint Challenge Scandinavia, piloting the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport of the Porsche Latvia Racing Team led by Valters Zviedris.
The Estonian athlete qualified fourth in the 10-driver competition, followed by two podiums in two races – 3rd place in the first race, and a solid 2nd position in the second race. “I am delighted with Romets’ great speed and the podiums he won. We had never competed at such a high level with the Porsche Latvia Racing Team, so we can be proud that we showed ourselves so well in the GT4 class,” said Valters Zviedris about the success of the team he led.

However, the titled Latvian had come to Sweden not only to support the Estonian on the sidelines, but also to prove himself on the track. “When I arrived on Friday, there was one practice session and then the qualifying, which was divided into two groups. Those who had not competed in the championship immediately went into the slow group, which I was in. Accordingly, it was not easy to find a free track – I set the fastest lap in qualifying by performing an overtaking maneuver. I felt after qualifying (11th place) that I had the potential to fight for higher positions in the race,” said Valters Zviedris about the first day of the competition.
Saturday was the first two races, in which the Latvian driver still had to get used to several things: “In the first race on Saturday, I had a not-so-successful start, because I hadn’t had experience with this type of start in a sprint race for a long time. It was also difficult to get used to the brakes at first, because they are different from the ones I had ridden with before – now there are disc brakes at the back too. I had to adapt to that, so it was a little harder to overtake at first, because they happen right on braking. I managed to fight well and moved up from 11th place to 9th position during the race.”

“It rained on the second race and I have not historically done so well on a wet track with the “Legend Cars”, but this time I felt really good. My karting experience definitely helped, because I used the karting wet-weather trajectories. I had a very good pace and won 4th place. The third race took place on Sunday, where the result was even worse – I was fighting my way up from 10th place, but unfortunately, there was contact from behind, which spun me. The worst part was that after spinning, another driver ran into me. There was a pretty strong collision, which seriously damaged the front corner of the car, so I had to retire,” Valters comments on the second and third runs.
“I really enjoyed the competition and the race itself, as we definitely want to come back here and compete in this Swedish “Legends Cup” series again. We have two “Legend Cars” in the garage, we will try to convert one to the new water-cooled engine. The pace was good and with additional training we can definitely fight for the top three, because I felt that I was a bit rusty and that there is room for improvement in both stability and speed. So the plan is to come back and fight for the top positions next time,” the titled racing driver is full of determination.
