Estonian Grand Prix race this week

7 August 2026

This weekend, the traditional Estonian Grand Prix will take place in Pärnu, Estonia, and Valters Zviedris will also be at the start. The Latvian driver will pilot a Legend Cars car for the second time this season and will go to battle against the strong representatives of the Finnish championship on the Porsche Ring track.

As mentioned in the introduction, this will be the second race of the season for Valters at the wheel of a Legend Car, because two months ago he competed in the Swedish Legends Cup series, demonstrating good speed and finishing in a high 4th place in one of the races. If in Sweden he still competed with a rented car, then in Estonia the Latvian driver will pilot his own Legend.

“We have blown the dust off one of our “Legend Cars”, which we bought in the USA seven years ago. The car has been technically inspected, serviced and ready to race. I know the Pärnu track and also the Finnish championship, which will host the “Estonian Grand Prix”, well from my races in Finland many years ago. The “Porsche Ring” is particularly interesting for Legends because it has long straights and the aerodynamics on them work quite poorly for these cars. Thus, there are quite a few good overtaking opportunities right after these long straights and before the 90-degree turns, so it will definitely be a very exciting and interesting race,” says Valters Zviedris.

The Latvian driver then explains that it will not be easy to enter this competition and that he will have to face one major challenge: “We will be driving with a previous generation engine, which still works with air cooling, not water. Most people are already driving with the latest generation and these engines differ both in the number of gears and in terms of power, and water-cooled engines do not overheat towards the end of the competition. However, by driving strategically and not staying so close to the competitors in the second half of the race, it is possible to fight for good places.”

Valters and his team do have another Legend, which is currently in Sweden and is being prepared there according to the latest specifications – with water cooling, better brakes, etc. This will allow them to compete with competitive equipment in various championships in our region in the future. But why did the Latvian driver and his team focus specifically on “Legend Cars” this year?

The answer is quite simple: “The joy of driving with Legends is truly indescribable and I was convinced of this again at the Swedish stage. During one drive – in 15 minutes – you can overtake 15 cars, you will be overtaken by the same number of others and there is always something to do. In other championships or series, it is difficult to get so many overtaking manoeuvres and joy in one drive. It is cool that there is such an opportunity to drive with “Legend Cars” relatively close to home, because Pärnu is only 2.5 hours away from Riga. Hopefully, we will be able to show a good result this weekend and go home with positive emotions.”

The Latvian driver also wants to thank all the partners who support his motorsport journey: “Thank you to everyone who helps us bring the name of Latvia to the world – “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, “iPS Media”, “Industry Service Partner”, the city of Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”. Without their support, I would not have been able to achieve such high achievements in recent years.”

The race week started on Thursday with tests, followed by two official practice runs and qualifying on Friday. On the main race day – Saturday – both races will be held. More information about the “Estonian Grand Prix” is available on the competition website estoniangrandprix.com/en/homepage/.
