Debut in 24-hour endurance race in Barcelona this week

24 September 2025

This weekend, the final round of the “24H Series” series – “24H Barcelona” will take place at the Barcelona F1 track. As throughout the year, the season’s climax will also feature Latvia’s leading racing driver Valters Zviedris, who will compete in the first 24-hour endurance race of his career, representing the titled “Mühlner Motorsport” team.

Although Zviedris and his team struggled with various technical issues and other setbacks in the first three rounds of the season, in the previous race at the “Paul Ricard” track, he finally managed to win the first victory of the season in the “992” class. The round in France was characterised by extreme heat, so the first-place win in challenging conditions was especially sweet. Also this weekend, the “Mühlner Motorsport” team will be joined by Estonian Martin Rump and German Julian Hanses at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 CUP, along with Valters.

33 teams have registered for the competition so far, including nine teams that will compete in the Latvian-represented “992” class. It should be noted that this time, the most powerful “GT3” class includes several racing stars, such as “Mercedes-AMG” factory pilot, “DTM” competitor Maro Engels, who has won countless titles and victories in the world’s most prestigious competitions in his career, including the Nürburgring and Daytona 24-hour races. Austrian Klaus Bahler, who last year became the winner of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in the “LMGT3” class, will also be on the starting grid.

“There is such a pleasant excitement before my first 24-hour race in my career. I have done some tests on the Barcelona track, I have also worked hard in the simulator, so the track is known and will not be completely new. For the first time, I will be driving in the dark; it will be such a new challenge. We are also one of the few teams that will drive for 24 hours with only 3 drivers, so there will be a lot of driving and little sleep, but that is what we like – spending a lot of time behind the wheel and helping the team achieve the highest possible result,” says Valters Zviedris about the upcoming race.

The Latvian driver continues to emphasize that “there is only one goal – to win the class and win the highest possible place in the overall standings. We are currently in 5th place, but with various coincidences we can even fight for the championship title, because this stage has double points, i.e. points will be awarded after both 12 and 24 hours. Therefore, the place after the first 12 hours is also very important, so we will focus on that too. I am confident in our lineup, because all three of us are fast and we have worked well together this season”.

Although there has been a long break from driving after the Paul Ricard stage, which took place in early July, Valters has been in the motorsport environment all season, leading the “Porsche Latvia Racing Team” team in the Baltic Touring Car Championship. However, nothing can replace driving itself, so the former Northern European Porsche champion is happy to be able to return to the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 CUP, which he knows well.

“Thank you to all the supporters who are with us in this fight for victory – “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, “iPS Media”, “Industry Service Partner”, Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”. We are preparing for each stage as a new challenge and will definitely strive for victory, because we have no other goals at this stage. We are very motivated to do it and end the season on a high note,” Valters Zviedris is full of determination.

The Barcelona 24 Hours weekend will start with training and qualifying on Friday, followed by the start of the big competition on Saturday at 13:00 Latvian time. It will last 24 hours and will take place without any breaks, so the race finish flag will be waved on Sunday at 13:00 Latvian time.
