Victory at the Barcelona 24-hour endurance race

30 September 2025

Valters Zviedris has ended the season with a great victory in his first 24-hour endurance race. The Latvian pilot, representing the “Mühlner Motorsport” team, won first place in the “Porsche 992” class in the prestigious “24H Barcelona” race and a high 9th position overall, thus also winning the bronze medal in the “24H Series” championship overall standings.

After failures in the first three stages and a beautiful victory in the “12H Paul Ricard” race, Zviedris and his teammates were in fifth place in the “992” class overall standings before the final stage. The goal before the “24H Barcelona” race was only one – to win and get into the top 3 for the season. As for almost the entire season, the Latvian pilot’s teammates this time were Estonian Martin Rump and German Julian Hanses, who were joined this time by Dutchman Paul Meijer. In total, 33 teams participated in the 24-hour endurance race in Spain, nine of which started in the “992” class, represented by Valters, which drives Porsche 911 GT3 Cup vehicles.

“It all started with the training sessions we had on Friday, where we found good settings for the car. As usual, we aimed to make the tyres last as long as possible in the race, so the settings for qualifying were not so aggressive and fast, and in the race itself, the car proved to be fast. In qualifying, we went well overall, but due to the aforementioned settings, we were not the fastest and finished fourth in the class. This turned into a third starting position, because one of the competitors received a penalty,” said Valters Zviedris about the first day of the race.

The race started successfully and throughout the first part of the race the “Mühlner Motorsport” team was among the leaders, with the first place in the class changing with each pit stop. The most important task in the first part of the race was accomplished – after the first 12 hours, when the first half of the points were awarded, the team was in the lead and gained the very valuable points for the overall standings. From that moment on, the lead was not lost, and a convincing victory was celebrated in the end.

“We did an excellent job with the settings. The car was fast both at the beginning and end of the stint, because with the worn tyres we were able to set good lap times, which allowed us to stay in the lead in the class. We were especially fast at night. My first stint in the dark was the most difficult for me personally, because the competitors were pushing quite hard from behind, but I’m glad that I held my position under this pressure and even pulled away in the end. Driving in the dark required a lot of concentration, because you have to think ahead, especially in turns where you can’t see the way out, and you have to turn blindly and press the gas at the right moment. I got used to it pretty quickly and really enjoyed this driving experience in the dark,” says the Latvian pilot.

Valters continues, “After the race, I was sore all over and I only had one hour to sleep in 24 hours. I drove four times myself, spending almost 6 hours in the car in total, and most of them were in the dark. I drove the last time at the very end and was able to reach the finish line at this special race. The teamwork was perfect, no mistakes in strategy or pit stops, so it was a well-deserved victory! And in the overall standings, we also moved up to third place in the class, so we also won a medal for the season. There was another surprise at the end of the race, because right after the finish I proposed to my girlfriend, which gave even more emotions to this weekend.”

Valters would like to thank all the supporters who have been with him during this special “24H Series” championship season: “Thank you to everyone who has helped us achieve such great achievements and bring the name of Latvia to the world – “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, “iPS Media”, “Industry Service Partner”, the city of Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”. This season is over, but we are already starting to think about the future. I really enjoyed working with the “Mühlner Motorsport” team this year. I felt good, so we will probably continue this cooperation in the future.”
