On 15 December, the Best Athletes of the year 2022 were awarded in Jurmala. The titles of Jurmala’s “Sportsmen of the Year” were awarded to the beach volleyball player Tīna Laura Graudiņa and motor racing driver Valters Zviedris. Prizes were awarded in a total of 14 nominations.
The award and title “Sportsman of the Year in Jūrmala” in 2022 was given to the motor racing driver Valters Zviedris for the second year in a row. He has won 1st place in the Latvian and Baltic Championship in the “BMW325 CUP” class overall, in three stages of the “DeWalt GP” in Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania, the 3rd place in the “Grand Finals” competition at Biķernieki track in Latvia, the 3rd place in the “Nankang Endurance Academy” two-hour endurance competition stage on the Botniaring track in Finland as part of the “LV Racing” team (together with Jānis Hānas), 3rd place in the “Parnu Summer Race” six-hour endurance competition, starting with the prestigious TCR class Audi RS3 car (together with Ivars Vallers), 5th place in “Rotax Nordic Challenge” karting stage in Šiauliai, Lithuania. Also, Valters won 5th place in the “FIA Motorsport games” – this is the highest achievement in his career so far in the competition of 18 athletes, competing in such a high-level international competition.
The annual sports awards in Jurmala are awarded for the 23rd time to honour athletes for their success and to thank those who have promoted a healthy and sporty lifestyle among the citizens of Jurmala.
Previously, Valters three times was awarded the nomination “Athlete of the year in technical sports” in Jurmala.
