Valters Zviedris will compete in the Michelin 12H Malaysia endurance race this weekend as part of the Mühlner Motorsport team. The Latvian driver will pilot a Porsche 911 GT3 CUP race car on the famous Sepang F1 track and, together with his teammates, will fight for victory in the 992 class in the challenging Malaysian heat.

The 24H Series Middle East will be visiting the Sepang circuit near Kuala Lumpur for the first time, but endurance races within the framework of various series have been taking place on Malaysia’s most famous track since the early 2000s. Although the number of participants in the first Michelin 12H Malaysia race is slightly smaller than expected (17 teams), the battles for victory in the GT3 and 992 classes promise to be very exciting. Among the drivers are several well-known racing specialists, but the biggest name is undoubtedly Swedish star Marcus Ericsson, who has spent five seasons in F1 and won the legendary Indy 500.
“I flew into Malaysia on Wednesday to get used to the time zone change and acclimatise to the heat and high humidity. It will be a physically demanding race, as the outside temperature is over 30 degrees, and the average humidity is around 80%. The good news is that, unlike in France, when three of us struggled with the heat, this time we have four drivers. What is new for this new “24H Series” season is that the maximum time at the wheel for one driver has been increased from two hours to two and a half hours. This allows us to drive longer alone and have more options in strategy, but we will definitely see how long it will be safe and efficient to drive,” says Valters Zviedris about his first impressions.

The Latvian pilot continues, saying that “I feel good before the race, because I have been waiting for such a challenge for a long time, in a new place and so far from Europe. It will be a pleasure to enjoy the F1-level track, where the F1 Malaysian Grand Prix was held from 1999 to 2017. I have done my preparatory work in the simulator, and I have become familiar with the turns and braking points of the Sepang track. This time, the team members will also be new – although I know the Dutchman Paul Meyer from the Barcelona 24 Hours, the other two team members, Australian Bayley Hall and Chinese Jiatong Liang, will be new.”
The Latvian driver would also like to thank all the supporters who continue to support him in the world of motorsport: “Thank you to everyone who helps us strive for new successes and bring the name of Latvia to the world – “Baltijas Sporta Auto – Porsche Latvija”, “Optibet Latvija”, “iPS Media”, “Industry Service Partner”, the city of Jūrmala, “Blue Shock Race”, “Joker klubs”, “Energolukss”, “I-Con” and SIA “Dārta”. We keep our fingers crossed. I will do everything in my power, but it will definitely not be easy. With the high heat and humidity, it will be challenging, but I am always ready to prove myself even in difficult conditions.”

The Malaysian 12-hour endurance race weekend will officially begin on Friday morning with practice, followed by qualifying races in the afternoon. Friday will end with a night practice session, as several hours of the race will also have to be held in the dark. The Michelin 12H Malaysia will start on Saturday at 4:00 Latvian time, meaning the finish will be at 16:00 Latvian time. The live broadcast of the race will be available at https://www.youtube.com/@creventicmotorsportstv/streams.
